Friday: IT Reflection/Fact

9:34 AM

Do you all know that African Americans make up 3% of IT professionals?

I will not say whether it too could be because this field is male dominant as well as the racial makeup being predominately white.  I think we as a people don't attempt to explore and allow our children to explore other alternatives to being successful.  We focus so much on our sons being the next Lebron, Kobe or KD that we don't realize that all of our children will not possess the same stamina, perservance, determination, motivation and ultimately God-gifted talent as these individuals as well as our daughters being caretakers, nurses, doctors and lawyers.  I'm not saying that they can't be of such but let's open them up to the subjects of Mathematics and Science.  We will save our life savings for the next pair of Jordans but we won't empower our children to be the next big fashion designer, shoe maker or business exec for Nike, Reebok and Adidas.  Technology is rapidly growing and its ever-changing before you know it technology will be all we have to utilize in that day and age. I, too, am the mother of two boys.  I will allow my children the ability to utilize their athleticism if that's what they choose but I will not hinder or omit to show them a world outside of what's played on the field and on a court.

Show your kids another world because you might not know who they might become!
